"Divorce viewed through a Father's heart"

This house is empty of smiles and tears

No homework help or questions of life
No daily embrace from little arms
Or little giggles from daddy's words

"How was your day, dad?" echoes in my mind

And "I love you, good night, god bless you"
The cuddles on the chair, snugger as they grew
The closeness now awaits a weekend

The daily laughter is replaced by absence

At mealtime I imagine their beautiful faces
I imagine their unfinished glasses of milk
And candy wrappers on the counter

They grow so fast from week to week

I feel I'm losing touch
Their friends and troubles pass me by
Their thoughts and feelings unshared

Their future seems out of my hands

Concealed somehow from view
My heart is full of love for them
Too much love to give all at once

The chance of change is minimal

I accept the present as whole
The love I don't have time to give
Will stay within my soul
