Okay, so as of last weekend, my wife tells me she is going at the end of this month for another interview in NY and will be gone for a week. She wanted to know if I wanted her to take our son for the week or if I wanted him to stay with me. Since she has given me very little notice, she agreed to leave 1 day later so I could have an additional day with our son, just in case I couldn't find any childcare for the week she would be away. Unfortunately, since any move was at least a couple of months away, this caught me off guard. I had not yet begun checking to find any childcare. I would love to have my son stay with me but it is very time-consuming locating suitable daycare (especially finding someone to babysit while I'm at work nights and weekends). Given the news reports many of us have seen regarding the lack of quality care, I am very leery of who I would choose as the first person other than family to care for our child. On the other hand, given the state of world events, I'm also not too thrilled for my son to be traveling by air and especially to NY. Hopefully in the next couple of days I may locate suitable childcare, but this type of research is best done with alot of patience because I wouldn't want to place my son in a dangerous domestic situation. Hard choices: do I rush to place my child in an uncertain and unknown home just so I can have him near me (and acquire considerable hours for the week - 168 hours would be all mine, that would look good in court) or do I allow him to travel to NY amongst the safety of his mother, aunt and other family, and forget about any possible threats to public safety in the air. In other words...take my chance with unsafe daycare or take my chances with the terrorists. Maybe I'm giving this too much thought and maybe I'm being a paranoid worry-wart so sorry for rambling but I just thought I'd put this out there for anyone's opinion. Rich.
