Joseph McCarthy was NOT responsible for the change, a Catholic Fraternal organization called the Knights of Columbus. And they are NOT a civic organization, they were formed soley for the purpose of helping each other and their faith.
It was written by a MINISTER and a boy scout troop leader.
Wellllllllllllll...you did get the "minister" part right. The BSA (Boy Scouts of America) wasn't even established until 1910 (and charted by Congress in 1916) and the Pledge was written in 1892.
'in god we trust' was added then also!

So you read some HUMOROUS article by someone who was a kid during the 1950s...when it was "better dead than red"...and who like ALL children, garble famous thing. Hells bells...I can remember signing "My Country Is A Tree" in grade school...guess I can blame the "treehuggers" or GreenPeace on that. LOL
