if it's just a woman who screams once in a while you are out of luck.

I'd also add, if the kids get spanked when caught doing something "bad" you are out of luck too.

Or, if the kids get "grounded" for doing something bad, you are out of luck too.

Or, if the kids fall down and get a "bruise" you are out of luck too.

And lastly, if you talk to the kids just as they are ending (or in the middle) of an argument with their father and stepmother and the kids says "I hate Dad" please take into consideration that you are their sounding board and they love to make you happy by hating him and her.
