I'm a bit confused by some of what you are trying to say. But, I would be uncomfortable with my 9 year old being alone at night. For a few hours in the afternoon, I personally wouldn't have a problem.

Seems that he is trying. Why not be flexible. Your daughter is out of school until probobly the third. Why not offer to help him by keeping her until he gets off work on Saturday and then let her stay through new years eve or new years day?

If you offer to be flexible and help him without trying to take time away (trade time) then maybe he will be in a possition to do the same for you someday.
