To vote is a right, but some countries that could be a priviledge. I think this right is an american example of taking something for granted.
Finally, I think most take the right to parent for granted until taken from us...then it is often too late. We then embark on the Everest of fights...a slow climb like taking on Mt Everest.
Often people take credit for granted until they go to buy a house...and wonder why b/c they said screw all other creditors they now must pay 9.5% instead of 5.875%.
We have always been able to vote (well, if you are white male). And in the beginning, the car had to yield, sometimes cover up at an approaching horse. So, the horse and rider had the "right of way".
