I'm also happy to hear you are OK. I used to work as a paralegal in a personal injury (read: car crash) law firm, so you are typical of the clients we represented (though some were severely injured).

Nonetheless, while most accidents do occur near your own home, that is primarily because most people spend most of their time near their own home (not because your own vicinity is inherently more dangerous than anywhere else). I think studies also show that lower income areas also have higher accident rates (which is why insurance companies "redline" or base insurance premiums on your zip code, to the extent they are still allowed to do this).

It is also true, however, as a former law professor of mine used to say "Negligence is in the air."

Weird things happen anywhere, anytime. Some years ago, after receiving a moving violation, I attended a driver's education course. During that course, at the teacher's request, we exchanged our personal stories about some truly weird things we had experienced while driving. Assuming the stories were mostly true, you would be amazed.

Anyway, the good thing is, you weren't injured. Hopefully your car will be repaired/replaced in a timely manner, and you will be able to move forward with your life quickly.

Best wishes.
