however, one thing is for certain. In 44 of the 50 states, you will become statutorily emancipated upon your 18th birthday. As long as you don't live in any of the other 6 states (see our FAQ section for more info), then on your 18th birthday, you become a legal adult, and you can live anywhere you want, including on your own, with your friends, with either parent, or anywhere else.

Since you are over 17, you are less than 365 days away from that big day. Your best bet, is probably to just be patient a bit longer. Any legal action you could contemplate will likely take longer than 365 days to complete, especially if there is opposition, and it will be expensive.

Or, if your mother agrees to let you go live with your dad, get it in writing and you could be there by the time the ink dries on your mother's signature.
