I would appreciate some feedback on supervised visitation issues in my family. This is a tough issue, but summer is rapidly approaching and I need some answers.

My x and her husband are drug addicts and alcoholics who use drugs, alcohol and cigarettes with our kids. They feel strongly about teens' rights to use drugs and they fiercely oppose addiction intervention and recovery efforts. The FL Dept of Children and Families has advised, but not mandated, that our daughter not be allowed access to her mother and stepfather.

My 16 yo daughter has severe drug addiction issues and has recently relapsed after 7 months' sober. Almost all of her many counselors have advised keeping her away from her mother or on supervised visitation.

I would prefer the latter. Yes, I could deny visitation, but my daughter needs to learn to live clean while co-existing with a parent and stepparent who are virtual drug pushers. She will be 18 in a little over a year.

My daughter does want to visit her mother this summer, but I do believe that she knows that there could be restrictions attached to her summer visitation. She would probably object to missing all contact. She keeps in close telephone contact with her mother.

Another complication could be the fact that my daughter is on probation for possession of cannibas and that will last through the summer. Terms of probation include not being around people who are using drugs. We do not yet have a probation officer assigned, so I don't know if that will be a factor, but we do need the court's permission for the out-of-state visit.

I have no experience with setting up a supervised visitation. There are trustworthy family members living in my x's home state, though. My x's sister, brother and father are all options, but I haven't popped the question to any of them. I doubt they even know the extent of the problems.

Any advise or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
