I've tried avoiding this topic of the Iraq war in the recent past, because it just makes me ill to think about the needless atrocity of it all.

Years from now, we will undoubtedly be embarrassed (or worse) by our involvement in these barbarous affairs; that is, if we remember historical events at all.

Anyone who has superficially studied world history, particularly of the "great" societies (Egyptians, Romans, Mayans, etc.) will note great similarities to our own society. Specifically, the parallels between the ancient Romans and the current USA are too numerous to mention. One thing is for sure - nothing lasts forever. The harder they come, the harder they fall.

It has been said that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It goes without saying that corruption today is rampant, and heading toward absolute. Historically speaking, no society has survived beyond the point of absolute corruption; I would doubt the USA will be the first.

Until that happens, we have an absolute responsibility to use our military and economic strength wisely. Regrettably, corruption has gotten far too endemic, and the current cabal of thieves in power wouldn't know responsibility and accountability if they tripped over it.

This is decidedly not the America we were promised, nor is it the America we deserve. I hope I live long enough to see this once great country get back on the right track - inspiring the masses to better achievements, instead of looting the masses of their wealth, sapping them of their hope.

Maybe I don't hope to live that long, because I have an ugly feeling that it's going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better. Corruption can't simply be turned off like a switch, once it's taken hold. Corruption has to be extirminated relentlessly, like cockroaches.

Well, I've got that off my chest now, but I regret to say I don't really feel any better about it. Sorry for the O/T discussion.

Good Luck.
