Petition No.1
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to introduce legislation granting legal rights to grandparents.
Nay. I love grandparents and in fact I am one, but this petition goes way too far. It flatly states that grandparents provide 60% of the child care, as if this is a universal fact.
Petition No.2
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Stop the misuse of the Family Court rulings in relation to Court Orders for non-resident parents
Aye, Nay. I agree with the spirit of the petition, but it is too vague to be worth much. Basically it is saying "Stop picking on NCP's!"
Petition No.3
Nay! Nay! Nay! This one is remorselessly gender biased and basically gives mothers full authority to exclude a father just because they "fear" harm, not because of any actual wrongdoing. It also specifies that it would only apply to unmarried couples who split prior to the birth, but why would this be?
Petition No.4
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to pass a law to enforce absent parents to pay maintenance.
Aye. I am surprised that the UK doesn't already have this law.
Petition No.5
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure that all absent fathers are made to pay towards their childrens upkeep and the c.s.a should not hold a womans second husband accountable for someone else's children.
Nay. I agree with everything in the petition except that it is gender biased. The income of a second spouse should not factor into the CS equation, but this must be inclusive of both stepfathers AND stepmothers. Re-write needed.
Petition No.6
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure that when a claim for Child Maintenance is made, that all the children in the household are mentioned on the forms
Nay. I'm not sure I understand this one, but it sounds as if the petitioner feels as if he is being "fleeced" and wants to make sure everyone else is too. Stepchildren in the household should not be a CS factor.
Petition No.7
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to close the Csa.Let the non resident parent decide what they can pay
Nay, but you might be surprised how close I am to agreeing with this one. I do believe that the CS system goes way too far and that most divorces should not involve court-ordered CS. Still, there are cases where one parent simply gives no financial support whatsoever and it is not right.
Petition No.8
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Scrap the Child Maintenance and other payments bill and return the subject to the Courts.
Aye. I don't mind a suggested guideline, but if the parents agree and the judge approves, why should a government agency force a standard formula down the family's throats?
Petition No.9
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Change the law to ensure it is the norm for there to be joint custody when parents divorce/separate.
Aye! Aye! Aye! This petition is well-written, indisputable and desperately needed. Children need, love and deserve both their Moms and their Dads exactly equally. Gender has nothing to do with value as a parent and only equality will stop the raging conflicts of divorce.
Petition No.10
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Give fathers an equal chance to be awarded custody of children in event of divorce
Nay. Yes equality is needed, but this is written in too vague a way to do much good. The goal is not to excluse mothers just as often as fathers are excluded. Equality means that neither parent in a given family is excluded. Plus, this petition is written as a quota system based on enforcement of an equal proportion. This is not fair given that fewer fathers file for custody.
Petition No.11
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to End the secrecy of the family courts
Nay. I am all too happy to end secrecy, but the justification for this petition is so blatantly loaded with falsehoods and gender bias that I can't get on board with this one. Nobody "uses" the courts to abuse victims.
Petition No.12
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to reinstate the fault clause and care, custody and control of children in divorce law
Nay. I realize that many people agree that we never should have abolished no-fault divorce, but the truth is that there is just about always some blame to be shared by both parties and no matter how much mud has been slung, the bottom line is the best interests of the child, not a blame game.
Petition N0. 13
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to STOP ALLOWING JUST ANYONE TO GIVE BIRTH!!.
Nay. As funny as this is, it is the people who feel they should sit in judgement on this who probably needn't have been born.
Petition No.14
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to change the ruling on cockrels being able to live in housing areas.
Nay. Move the people out. Keep the cockrels.
