Why yes...just as the current situation does not work in every case, neither will shared parenting. However, it puts EVERYONE on a level playing field...both parents know what to expect, and if one parent does not or cannot step up, you can then modify things downward.
As you sid it's backwards...many, many fathers want involvement but cannot b/c of the laws and courts. And those that do have to spend thousands to fight...one should not have to fight for what is right.
