the $300K figure you mention is just a practical matter right?

Isn't the fed. statutory minimum "amount in controversy" for diversity jurisdiction still $75K, or did they recently raise the minimum?

Of course, the rest of your suggestions seem sound, it does seem like fraud, but since the defendant resides in CA, and the cause of action (fraud) arose in CA, isn't that the proper venue and jurisdiction?

Just asking, I'm not in a position to contradict.
