That is interesting that this deal is struck on the basis that the father can stay in the US for several years. This is a state court making a decision with a clause dependent on a federal immigration decision.

Immigrants don't just get to say here. Federal laws are passed each year that say how many people from each country get to their legal residency papers approved each year. I know people from the Phillipines that have waited almost 20 years for their applications to become legal residents to be processed.

He has to be petitioning for legal residency otherwise he would not get a work permit. The only thing I can think is that he will attempt to stay on his legal travel visa and the rich couple have agreed to financially support him.

This girl must mean alot to them. Hopefully this family can become more like a big extended family and get along. Could happen...
